Posted on December 24, 2022December 24, 2022 By Harry Ligma No Comments on 3 Low Profile Mechanical Keyboard

When setting up your computer desk, you will need a wide variety of equipment and accessories to provide a solid working or gaming experience.

One of the most fundamental peripherals that you will be making use of is a keyboard, to type and input commands for maximum productivity.

There are a wide range of keyboards available on the market but they are often quite clunky in design, taking up plenty of space and looking clumsy in the process.

Thankfully, innovations in key switch technology have allowed manufacturers to design a whole host of low profile mechanical keyboards that have ultra thin profiles.

These low profile keyboards can perform well while also looking incredible in your setup. Here are a few options for low profile mechanical keyboards.

Table of Contents

Corsair K100 AIR Wireless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

We are kicking things off with a highly premium option from Corsair in the K100 AIR Wireless RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard.

This keyboard packs a mechanical system into an ultra thin design.

At just 11m at the slimmest point, this keyboard is the thinnest one Corsair have ever produced.

Despite its low profile form factor, it doesn’t compromise on build quality since it features a sleek aluminum frame with an attractive brushed finish.

To facilitate such a thin design, the keyboard makes use of ultra low profile

Cherry MX mechanical key switches that have a satisfying tactile click and a 0.8mm actuation distance.

It somehow packs in fully customizable RGB backlighting too, which can be controlled with the Corsair iCUE software to create a range of profiles.

These lighting profiles can be stored on-board the K100, with up to 50 being memorized at one time. There are four ‘G keys’ that are fully programmable to allow a more personalized control setup.

As well as these G Keys, there are dedicated media controls to control things like volume at the touch of a button.

In terms of connectivity, the Corsair K100 AIR is fully wireless with hyper fast connection speed. This is achieved using Corsair’s Slipstream technology to provide a sub-1ms connection.

In order to ensure that your keystrokes are secure, the keyboard also comes with AES 128-bit connection to give you peace of mind.

When wirelessly connected, the K100 offers up to 50 hours of battery life even with RGB lighting enabled and up to 200 when it is disabled.

The keyboard is not only wireless through Slipstream however, since it also has full bluetooth support to connect to a wide range of devices. T

here is even an inclusive USB C cable for charging and connectivity. With all of these options, this low profile mechanical keyboard works with PC, Mac, console and even mobile devices.

Logitech G915 Lightspeed TKL Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Logitech is one of the biggest names around for computing equipment and for very good reason.

They have a fantastic low-profile mechanical keyboard option in the Logitech G915 Lightspeed Tenkeyless mechanical gaming keyboard.

While it is slightly higher than the previous option, this keyboard is still incredibly thin at a height of just 22mm.

This is achieved through a premium aluminum alloy top plate combined with low-profile GL mechanical keyswitches.

Not only is it thin, it is also small in footprint due to the tenkeyless design which does away with the number pad.

There is also the addition of lightsync RGB backlighting which allows customizable patterns with up to 16.8 million colors.

These profiles can be stored on board the keyboard and altered using the Logitech G Hub software.

On top of this, there is dedicated media controls and five programmable macro keys for full personalization.

In terms of connectivity, the G915 makes use of Logitech’s lightspeed wireless technology to deliver a super fast 1ms report rate.

This wireless connection allows up to 40 hours of gaming time on a single charge, which can be fully recharged in just 3 hours.

There is also the option of bluetooth connectivity, to ensure compatibility with a wide range of devices.

    Keychron K3 Ultra-Slim Mechanical Keyboard

For something a little less flashy but still incredibly low profile, the Keychron K3 ultra-slim mechanical keyboard is a fantastic choice.

The ultra-slim design of this keyboard means that it is just 22mm at its highest point, which is smaller than the diameter of a US quarter coin.

This profile is achieved by making use of low-profile Keychron optical switches which are 40% slimmer than conventional alternatives.

These switches are fully hot-swappable to customize your typing experience with no soldering necessary.

The signature feature of this keyboard is the wireless and wired connectivity that allows you to connect to up to three devices simultaneously and switch between them with ease.

This offers a high level of flexibility and productivity, particularly in an office environment.

The wireless connection is achieved via Bluetooth whereas the wired capability is presented through a detachable USB C cable.

In terms of backlighting, the Keychron K3 utilizes white LEDs behind the floating keys with both a static or flashing mode.

Despite the low profile design, there is also full ergonomic support with two levels of adjustable feet, an inclined frame and curved keycaps to provide a comfortable experience in longer sessions.

For full customization, the keyboard ships with a keycap puller, a switch puller and a dust cover.

In terms of compatibility, the keyboard will work with both Mac and Windows, with no need for additional drivers.

    Our Thoughts

Low profile mechanical keyboards can be a great way to give you a more aesthetically pleasing desktop setup.

Whether you are working or gaming, the options presented above offer ultra thin designs that do not compromise their functionality.

No matter which option you choose, you will receive a mechanical keyboard that has multiple connectivity options, customizable backlighting, flexible compatibility and an attractive form factor.

If you are really looking to impress your friends, family or colleagues, the Corsair K100 AIR is currently the thinnest mechanical keyboard that money can buy at an incredibly slim 17mm at its highest point or 11mm at its narrowest.
