Winter is coming and there is no better time to put together the gaming room of your dreams to hunker down into through the dark nights, bad weather and holiday seasons.
Regardless of the systems that you play on, it can be a daunting task to outfit your gaming space so we have put together 50 plus gaming room ideas to get you started or help you add the finishing touches to your budding base:
Neon Signs

I think a way to bring any gaming room to life is to have some sort of neon sign involved somewhere. What I really like about it – is that it brings in a different dimension to lighting up the area than you would have otherwise.
Plus, they can get pretty fun. Check out other ways of lighting up your gaming space too and makes an overall different kind of lighting idea for your gaming room.
Embrace Your Inner Anime

If you’re a fan of a particular anime show or a general theme – don’t be afraid to run with it – I have gone all out in the past with One Punch Man. From the background to even a One Punch Man mug (and the series of comics) – as you can see when done in a tasteful manner – it looks fantastic!
Pegboards

I seriously think Pegboards are underrated – especially for gaming spaces – they look great and they are actually super useful as a storage space. You can use them to help create a certain aesthetic to your gaming area, plus you can use it to hang up a bunch of accessories – such as headphones, other keyboards and so on.
Wall Mount Your Monitor

I’m a big fan of wall-mounted monitors. They offer a tonne of benefits from a more minimalistic aesthetic to creating more actual space for your desk as well. Invest in a decent monitor and get it wall mounted if you can – hide the cables by channelling it in the wall if you are feeling DIY savvy.
If you don’t decide to go for the wall mounted approach – then at least – make sure that you are getting a desk that is actually big enough for your monitor.
Monitor Arms

An alternative to getting your monitor wall mounted is to invest in a quality monitor arm. It will actually do a great job of allowing more flexibility with your monitor but also frees up more desk space and gives a more clean aesthetic. Plus, it really allows for the LED RGB to come through on your desk if you have that set up as well.
Then if you have multiple monitors as well whether it is two or three – make sure that your desk can actually take the weight as well.
RGB Diffusers
An often overlooked gaming accessory is actually to get hold of an RGB diffuser. They don’t only help to ensure your room smells great, but they look pretty funky too – producing a mist that can overshadow your workspace.
Plus, a lot of them have some sort of LED lighting aspect that you can adjust too that can add to the overall room. Well worth checking some of the more premium ones out as well and they tend to often a wooden base that can match your rooms color and aesthetics.
Under Desk Storage

Take advantage of storage under your desk. Whether it is just a clip to hang up your headphones or you get under-desk baskets to store cables, making use of this space is a great way to keep your whole space looking cleaning but practical too.
Monitor Lighting Bars

Notice how the light shines down on the keyboard in a otherwise dark room – the monitor lighting bar – you will notice at the top of the monitor (fancy that!) creates a great inviting look but also opens up the workspace from a practical standpoint too. So you aren’t just relying on all your fancy RGB lights all the time.
Choose a Color Theme

Just as with any room – gaming rooms with a specific color theme – tend to go better. Here I have broken down 10 of my favorite color themes for gaming rooms. However, you can see how you can achieve it from the RGB to the Wallpaper as well as lighting effects. In addition to some accessories you can quickly create a pretty epic look to your gaming room. The beauty of this type of set up is that you’re ability to change it up pretty fast too.
Mouse Wrist Rest

Invest in wrist rests for well — you guessed it — wrist support. If you plan on doing a lot of PC gaming, you’re no doubt going to place a fair bit of stress and strain on your wrists. Make sure you get something that helps you to sustain your gaming performance to the highest level.
Invest in a Cooling Mechanism

When you’re gaming – especially in the summer months – it can get rather on the warm side, so make sure to come up with some ways of addressing that (check out our guide on 10 ways to cool down a gaming room) and ways you can avoid sweaty hands whilst gaming too.
Gaming Mats

Gaming mats don’t only serve to keep your space organized and also provide grip to your gaming peripherals but can also really add to a space. Especially, if you look into the RGB mats that can sync up with your mouse and gaming keyboard. I’m a huge fan of Corsair and the different XXL mats they have can really ‘add’ to the overall aesthetic. Plus, I’d go with theg general color set up that you want whether that’s pink, white or just a pain RGB one.
Vintage Kickback Art

A great addition to any room is a piece of wall art and with so much gaming related artwork out there, you are spoilt for choice! We recommend Displate specifically who produce high-quality metal posters offered in a range of sizes, finishes and frames. There are so many to choose from, officially licensed by your favorite games such as this retro Nuka Cola poster from the Fallout series.
Soundproofing

If you are a bit concerned that you are going to be causing a bit too much noise for the other members of the household – you can think about soundproofing your gaming room. There are a tonne of ways to do that and we break it down in the following guide.
Gaming Gloves

This is a little less for the room per se – but more for you – and something you might want to think about. If you are prone to getting sweaty hands whilst gaming – that can actually impact your gaming performance – there are actually a number of things you can do to combat this. One of those – is to potentially invest in some gaming gloves that can give you that necessary grip.
Wall-Mounted Lighting

There is nothing like some ambient lighting to set the mood for long play sessions and with Nanoleaf shape wall lighting, you can create your ideal layout using triangles and hexagons which feature easy set-up, a range of controls and many color options.
Desktop Lighitng

If you don’t want to opt for lighting attached to the walls of your gaming room, you can always go for something that sits on your desk, shelf or floor. There are many gaming themed lamps out there such as this charming Pac-Man light with adjustable brightness.
Hidden Wall Mounts
One super underrated idea for a gaming room is to use wall mounts to hide wires and consoles. As you can see from the above – wall mounting your xbox – behind your gaming TV that is also wall mounted. Gives a super sleek and overall really clean minimal gaming set up.
Of course, it doesn’t just have to be consoles but your controllers and remotes as well. The only thing I would say is make sure it is easily accessible, won’t get overheated and to pay attention to the overall wiring.
Gaming Chair

For longer gaming sessions, you will want a chair that offers sufficient comfort, support and style. Look no further than Secretlab and their Titan Evo chair with ergonomic design, material customization and style options. The sleek black design of their stealth model is sure to fit right in to any gaming room.
Gaming Desk

To accompany your gaming chair, a gaming desk is your next port of call. While there are many out there, the flexibility that an ‘L’ shaped desk gives you is unparalleled.
You will be able to fit more peripherals, consoles, and trinkets and the Citadel Gaming Desk is the perfect choice.
With cable management grommets, built in headset hook, waterproof mouse mat and adjustable height, this carbon fiber textured gaming desk is the best in the business. It even has a cupholder! Explore our range of gaming desks that we have taken a look at here – from small desks to desks for ultrawide setups.
LED Gaming Desk

I think one of the most simple and relatively cheapest high ROI tasks you can do to make any desk go from standard to gaming desk (or at least create a super nice area) is to add some LED lighting. We go over how to do just that here with “How to Put LED Lights on a Desk“.
Gaming Desk Accessories
There is a tonne of gaming desk accessories that you can invest in – from RGB lighting strips to headset stands and more. I am a big advocate of lighting towers to create any standard desk into that gaming desk type feel. You can find some from Corsair (LT100s) that work great.
Footrest

Often neglected by gamers, a footrest will help you to maintain a healthy posture and ensure comort when playing for hours at a time. You don’t need anything too fancy here but adjustable is always better and there are plenty of cheap options available on Amazon that will be fit for purpose.
Cable Management

I think for a lot of novice gamers who start their first gaming set up, they think of cable management as an after thought – it is only once you have gone the process – maybe several times that you need to keep it front of mind.
It really can be the difference between a good and great set up – cables just provide that cluttered feel – invest in proper cable management to give that sleek look.
Beanbags

Perhaps you want a more relaxed option for lounging around and playing games more casually. Beanbags can be a great addition to a gaming room to provide that option and host your friends to hang around and play together. Beanbagbazaar offer waterproof beanbags in a range of color options to match your gaming room.
Figurines

Why not fill your desk and shelves with figurines of your favorite video game characters? There are many companies that have partnerships with major game publishers and developers such as the massively popular Funko Pop! collection or Nintendo’s Amiibo line.
Plushies
Particularly if you have a bed or sofa in your gaming room, plushies can make for a cutesy addition. There are many available with the biggest franchise in all of media, Pokémon dominating this space and you can get your hands of the beloved original starter Pokémon all in one set from Smyths toys.
Coffee Table

Despite having a dedicated gaming desk, a coffee table can help to center a room and enable you to place furniture around it or fill it with additional, gaming related items. Grab some game themed coasters to keep your surface clean and add a quirky spin to the classic furniture piece.
Gaming Headset

Many gamers today will want to play with their friends in online multiplayer games and you cannot do that effectively without a great gamng headset. There is a huge price range on headsets and we could spend a lot of time discussing this but for a middle of the road, affordable option, the HyperX Cloud Alpha is a solid pick. Take a look at our range of noise cancelling headsets (specifically built for gaming) we have recently taken a look at too.

Microphone

Some of you out there may be established or aspiring content creators and you cannot record videos or stream to viewers without a decent microphone. Yes, you could use your headset but for a more professional set up the pricey but excellent Blue Yeti is a great choice.
Green Screen
If you are into streaming (plug: check us out on Twitch) then investing in a sweet looking green screen – will make it a much more entertaining overall stream. I think the most practical ones that I can find are from Elgato – where you can literally attach it to the ceiling and have it pulldown as and when you need it – rather than having it down constantly.
Gaming Mouse

Some people will be gaming on a PC and a good mouse will be essential to operate your machine while ensuring good hand, wrist and arm health. Razer are one of the most popular gaming mouse manufacturers for good reason and the DeathAdder V2 will look great on your new gaming desk.
My personal go to is the Corsair Scimitar as I am more of a strategy gamer – and the ability to make it productive as well is such a big plus.
Gaming Keyboard

Every gaming mouse needs to be accompanied by a keyboard and again it can be difficult to choose from the many available options but the Logitech G915 is a super sleek, wireless RGB keyboard that will be right at home on any gaming desk.
Gaming Mouse Pad

In order to get the upper hand in your games, it is best to ensure your mouse is gliding nicely on a decent mouse pad. This is something you don’t need to splash the cash on too much but be sure to select something waterproof and large enough to facilitate your wrist movements in the most frantic of situations. If you don’t have a mouse pad too hand, there are a tonne of different alternatives that you can use as well.
Speakers

Sound is an important part of video game experiences and while you could listen to games through your headset, it is often more comfortable to kick back and blast your favorite gaming soundtracks out of a set of speakers. The Logitech Z407 sound system is the perfect solution for a wireless, stylish, great-sounding speaker set up.
Gaming Monitor

Having all of this equipment is useless if you have no visuals and monitors have come a long way in quality in the last few years alongside the next generation of gaming.
Why not go all out with the Alienware 34 QD-OLED, complete with incredible resolution, performance and aesthetics?
If you are unsure, as to what size you need we have a pretty handy guide we’ve written here on picking the best monitor size for gaming and for those who know they really want an ultrawide version.
If you’re one for multiple monitors, you can think about their layout and the potential of stacking them.
Vertical Chat Monitor

You’ve probably seen streamer setups with a long, vertical monitor adjacent to their main screen with which they read the scrolling chat on platforms like Twitch or YouTube. If you have ambitions to become a streamer yourself, you may wish to invest in one
of these vertical monitors to keep your gaming experience clutter-free.
Stream Deck
If you are serious about streaming, your desk will also benefit from a Stream Deck which is a customizable control panel that allows you to perform various commands during your streams. Elgato offer a great range of Stream Decks that come in a variety of sizes.
Gaming Cookbooks
When you searched for gaming room ideas – I bet you didn’t have this on your bingo card. A recent trend is cookbooks filled with recipes from your favorite video games and this could be a great piece for your coffee table, shelf or desk that serves as both a functional guide and a novelty talking point. Check out the Elder Scrolls cookbook and start baking some sweetrolls for you and your friends.
Game Novels
Another great addition to your gaming room shelves is novels based on your favorite video games. There are entire novel series based on the likes of Halo, BioShock, Dragon Age and much more. You could even grab the books that games are based on such as the Witcher or Metro 2033 to complete your game inspired library.
Game Artbooks
If you do not wish to adorn your coffee table with a book of the culinary arts, there are plenty of gaming art books that can be a great addition to your room. Chances are, your favorite game has a published art book out there so go ahead and pick one up.
Game Guides
Continuing on the literary theme, there are some excellent and comprehensive video game guides out there that would be a great companion to your gaming sessions. Long and sprawling games give way to the best guides since there is so much content to explore, so look for your favorite open world RPG and get hold of the guide for your gaming room.
Game Case Rack

Despite most gamers today opting to download their games through digital marketplaces, it can still be exceptionally satisfying to acquire, collect and display physical video game cases. What better way to show your affection for physical media than to store them in a case rack, of which there are many available for a relatively low cost?
Headset Stand

So you’ve got your gaming headset and realized that just leaving it on your desk can look a little messy. This is where a headset stand can come in handy and the Corsair stand provides RGB lighting, built-in USB charging and a convenient headset hook.
USB Dock

Speaking of USB, there are many devices that make use of this universal port connection. A USB dock can provide a larger selection of accessible USB slots that you can use to connect and charge your peripherals and devices.
Gaming Mug

Not specifically one of our gaming room ideas – but it can’t go without saying – and I know we already mentioned a desk with a cup holder and the addition of cupholders for your coffee table so a gaming themed mug to go with them is essential to help keep you hydrated through those longer sessions.
Lap Tray
You will want to keep your gaming room neat and tidy, so if you are planning on eating in there you should think about getting a tray of some kind to keep any crumbs from your gaming snacks in check. This officially licensed Minecraft lap tray is the perfect example of a product for fans of the worlds best selling video game.
Gaming TV

A monitor is a great way to play games but it isn’t quite as relaxed as a TV. Manufacturers have developed TV’s specifically targeting gamers to usher in the new generation of home consoles. LG have come a long way to provide 4K OLED TV’s that allow you to play games in up to 120 frames per second for a silky-smooth experience.
Controller Stand

Another way to keep your gaming room spick and span would be to pick up a controller stand. There are different options out there that will allow you to stack a number of controllers and even charge them in some cases. This is a great addition to any gaming desk, particularly if you have a few consoles with different controllers.
Controller Holder
Another novelty option to hold your controllers are the Cable Guys characters that are based on your favorite video game heroes such as this Master Chief version from the Halo series.
Star Wars

There are many Star Wars video games already out there, with many more to come in the future so why not complete your nerdy den with a Jedi robe to keep yourself warm in the winter.
Blankets

If you don’t want to opt for a robe, there is always the option to get yourself a good blanket to match the color scheme, layout and theme of your gaming room.
Pillows
Whether it is for your gaming chair, sofa or bed, you will benefit massively from a few pillows to make yourself as comfortable as possible. Combine these with the plushies that were suggested earlier for a really cozy feel.
Lego Consoles
While your gaming room will be home to a game console, LEGO and Nintendo have collaborated to produce a LEGO version of the classic Nintendo Entertainment System console that would be an amazing collectible for your shelf.
Retro Consoles

Perhaps you want to go further than the LEGO version and display your classic, retro gaming consoles in a display case, cabinet or shelf. If you do not own any of these retro consoles, they are still fairly attainable through online marketplaces.
Basketball Hoop
It is important to take regular breaks when gaming and to get in some physical activity so why not get yourself a door-mounted basketball hoop to shoot some three pointers from the comfort of your gaming room.
Custom Rugs
A really cool way to add some character to your gaming room is through a rug and through websites like Etsy, you can find some really interesting, bespoke, custom gaming-themed rugs to bring your space to life with a one-of-a-kind piece.
As one of our gaming room ideas, it doesn’t have to be gaming oriented but a rug of some kind can really help to create a specific zoned out area to keep it separate from the rest of the room.
They don’t even necessarily need to be custom really, any sort of gaming carpet or rug that suits the room will do the trick nicely – it should help with squashing the sounds coming from your gaming room as well.
Cabinets and Drawers

We have listed plenty of gadgets, trinkets and collectibles for your gaming room but you will need somewhere to display or store them. That is why it is essential that you have some cabinets and drawers that fit in with the aesthetic that you are going for in your gaming room.
Gaming Apparel

Now that you have some furniture in your gaming room, you can fill it with some cool gaming apparel based on your favorite franchises. Insert Coin clothing do a great range of clothing and accessories in partnership with games like Resident Evil, Dark Souls, Doom and many more.
Desk Fan

We have identified some additions for your gaming room for the winter months but in the summer, you may need something to keep you cool. Here is where a desk fan will come in handy and there are a large variety of available styles, colors and prices.
Sofa

Gaming chairs are great but when you want to kick back, relax and enjoy your favorite casual gaming experiences, you cannot beat a good sofa. Make sure you select one that matches your gaming room aesthetic with regards to the size, color, materials and features.
Plants

Many gaming related products are very tech slanted, focusing on metallic finishes, RGB lighting and futuristic visuals. While this aesthetic appeals to many, natural greenery through house plants can go a long way to making your gaming room feel more enjoyable to be in. I think this is one of the key gaming room ideas that often gets missed – there is something about adding plants to a gaming room area that really helps to add a bit of a different ambience.
Xbox Series X|S

Microsoft have gone all in on gaming, producing the most powerful gaming console ever and acquiring many developers and publishers including their ongoing purchase of Activision Blizzard. The Xbox Series X is a fantastic premium console and the Series S provides incredible value for money. Both will give you access to perhaps the best deal in gaming, the Xbox Game Pass service which is essentially a subscription service for games.
Nintendo Switch OLED

The Nintendo Switch is an incredible hybrid console that perfectly blends the handheld and home console experiences with ingenious detachable joycon controllers. The Japanese gaming giant made this experience even better with the Nintendo Switch OLED, offering a bigger screen, better handheld visuals, a better kickstand and even a LAN port.
PlayStation 5

Sony’s next generation console, the PlayStation 5 is their most powerful version yet which offers incredibly loading times, an excellent controller with haptic feedback and a slightly cheaper option with no disk drive. With some incredibly exclusive games already released such as Horizon Forbidden West, God of War: Ragnarok and Ratchet & Clank.
Steam Deck
Nintendo has been largely unchallenged in the handheld gaming space for many years, although many have tried to knock them off their throne and failed. However, Valve have created something truly extraordinary in the Steam Deck, a handheld gaming PC with incredible performance, excellent hardware and a great user interface.
Gaming PC

Although consoles have come a long way with regards to power, a high-end gaming PC will still be the best way to experience the highest frame rates and the best visuals in your favorite games. Combine with the functionality of a computer and you cannot go wrong in getting one for your gaming room. Whether you are buying a pre-built machine or putting together your own custom rig, there are so many options out there.
Webcam

Whether you are streaming to an audience, recording content for your YouTube channel or jumping on a video call with your friends, a great webcam will be a useful addition to your gaming set up. Depending on your needs, webcams can vary hugely in price and visual quality so be sure to do some careful consideration before purchasing one.
Projector and Screen

If you have a big enough room available to you, a projector can be a fantastic way to experience games. A few years ago, this wouldn’t have been viable due to input lag and latency issues as well as low quality visuals. In 2022, projectors are better than ever and have become an option for playing games. The BenQ X1300i is a fantastic option that allows HDR 1080p visuals, 8.3ms input lag and compatibility with all major game consoles and PC.
