6 LED Lights for Gaming Desks

Posted on October 31, 2022January 29, 2023 By Harry Ligma No Comments on 6 LED Lights for Gaming Desks

When it comes to LED lights for gaming desks, you can actually get pretty creative with it.

Adding lighting to any gaming desks help to really illuminate the experience and creating a more thrilling gaming environment.

Especially, when you have some sort of lighting software the Corsair iCue offers, where the lighting becomes part of the game itself.

For instance, you score a goal in a game and then the LEDs of your gaming set up go into a celebratory mode with flashes – it can really make for a super immersive experience – so it’s well worth it.

Here I wanted to break down different LED lighting options you have to create that overall effect.

Table of Contents

    LED Mini Strips

One of the sleekest and easiest way to help add LED lighting to your gaming desk is simply to get some self adhesive LED strip and add it along the edge of your desk.

There are a tonne of different options out there for this – from color changing with a remote to one that syncs in with your gaming set up.

It’s cheaper if it doesn’t sync into game play but if you do want it to I’d opt for the Elgato mini strip that gives you the instant feedback of the game itself.

I think this should be the first real option people should look to when looking for LED lighting for their gaming desk as the lighting itself is actually hidden so creates a really cool effect in your gaming with minimal disruption to the overall aesthetics.

    Lighting Towers

At this point, you’re probably going to think that I am a Corsair fan boy – and you would be 100% right. The iCue LT100 are a great option for this.

You usually pick them up in twos and they typically sit either side of your monitor but sit on your desk itself.

Again though like I touched on before, it syncs into the game itself that you’re playing when you hook it up to Corsair’s iCue software.

It really creates an insane gaming experience, stimulating the senses off screen as well and being so fast to change to the movements.

Plus, they have a great aesthetic too – they look great ad you’re definitely going to have a lot of fun with them. Once you start investing in the Corsair ecosystem – it’s hard to get away. I started off with a Corsair keyboard and everything ever since has pretty much turned that way.

    Gaming Desks with Built-in LEDs

Now we have touched on whether gaming desks are actually worth it previously.

What you will find with some gaming desks that are actually at a pretty good value to be fair is in built LED strips.

This does give a cleaner overall look to the finish than the recommendation above where you can add the LED mini strip itself.

However, you can be restricted by not having the ability to yourself to sync in with the game. That said, there are some great gaming desks out there that actually come at very reasonable prices which give an awesome gaming experience.

I would just caution that you make sure that the desk itself actually serves the purpose first. E.g. can it actually withstand the monitor you’re looking at, is it the right shape (is it a L shape or just regular one you’re after)?

    Large Gaming RGB Mouse Pads

I was actually initially a little unsure of whether to include this or not.

Technically, you’re not lighting up the desk but in some senses you are. So I thought, I’d just include it anyway and then you can make up your own mind.

Investing in RGB mousepads, is a great way to help illuminate your gaming area – the lights can agin sync in with your gaming keyboard, gaming mouse and gaming rig as well as the lighting that sits around the desk too.

It’s an underrated investment I feel as it can really help the overall area pop a lot more than just a standard desk mat that most setups tend to have anyway.

    LED Ring Lights

The LED ring and key lights tend to be an option that streamers get as well as YouTubers to help illuminate their face but you can get them to face down on the desk as well to create a better look to the overall work desk.

They can look great not only in person, but it turns up really well on camera as well – if that’s something that you are interested in and want to venture down.

You can also get them to sit across the top of your monitor – like an LED bar – that allows you to create more lighting on your desk area as well.

    Classic LED Desk Lamps

We have pretty much left the most obvious ‘desk lighting’ solution till last – and that’s of course just to invest in a desk LED lamp that can help light up the overall desk.

They of course come in a range of different styles to match the aesthetics and have a range of options to adjust the lighting on each of them – so that you can dial in just what you’re after.

These are a great way to great a lot of lighting and they can offer some great aesthetics too. If you’re going for a more industrial look – you can get specific lighting made of galvanised steel and make use of classic filament Warm White LED lamps.

Likewise, you can go more modern to create a look that’s sleek with the light bars that help to light up your space.

What LED Lights Will You Use For Your Gaming Desk?

Generally, when it comes to LED lights for gaming desks – I think you should aim to use a combination of the above rather than just rely on a single lighting source idea.

When you create lighting from different elevated heights it is a well known interior designer trick to create a more inviting and ‘cosier’ room – I think you should use the same principle here too.

The simplest way would be to do the LED strip that runs along the back of your desk which gets covered in a nice way and then invest in a high quality LED Desk lamp that will come in useful for when you need what’s going on the desk as well.

Then your gaming accessories as mentioned and even your gaming rig might kick off RGB lighting as well – so you can definitely provide more than enough lighting for your gaming desk.

It’s only really if you’re streaming do you need to think about lighting up your face from your desk as well – so that’s something to take into consideration.
