If you’re thinking about converting your small bedroom into a gaming room.
You won’t regret it.
Here we are going to provide you with plenty of inspiration with over 40+ different small bedroom gaming ideas as well as different set ups of where people…
Just like you.
With gaming growing more popular than ever – there are plenty of people who have gone ahead and converted their small bedrooms into inviting gaming rooms – and have come up with clever ideas to get around restricted space.
But first, what do you need to convert a small bedroom into a gaming room?
A gaming room needs a high-quality gaming desk, accessories, an ergonomic chair, a high-performance gaming rig (that can be Consoles such or your Gaming PC) and storage for games and memorabilia.
So let’s get to it.
Here are some things to keep in mind while creating a small bedroom gaming room.
Gaming Bunk Bed
Obviously, with it being a gaming bedroom, you’re going to need to account for your bed. One of my favorite recommendations for doing just that is to invest in a bed and gaming solution. Whether you create a DIY solution or get literally gaming bunk bed like the X Rocker above – it’s a great way of tackling a lot of issues you’re facing with a blank start.
RGB Your Bed

One feature that is totally unique to small gaming bedrooms is that you can make use of your bed to add to the whole gaming experience. Plus, it can be done in a super easy way – by just adding an LED strip to the underside of the bed.
You can see above, that’s exactly what they have done and have some Nanoleaf type lighting on the wall as well to match that goes behind the main gaming station on the left.
Gaming x Streamer Room with Bed
If you’re planning on using the small bedroom as a means of streaming as well.
It goes without saying that you’re going to need to invest in the necessary equipment:
- Stream Deck (check out our comparisons of the Stream Decks)
- Microphones for commentating as you are going along gaming
- Game capturing to reupload.
- Even a potential green screen to hide your bedroom.
However, if you’re planning on showing a backdrop this is where you need to make sure that your audience actually has a pretty enticing and cool backdrop for you to game with.
For instance, if you have the bed in your streamer room (i.e a gaming room with bed) then making the most of that with added RGB is a great touch to complete the overall look of the room.
Plus, I think it is a great way of just making it a super cosy gaming set up with a bit of pizzazz too.
Mount Your Gaming PC or Consoles
Want a way that saves space but also looks freaking epic?
Think about wall mounting your consoles whether that’s an Xbox or Playstation – not only does it look super neat when it is stacked up.
You’re also saving a bunch of precious floor and desk space.
If you’re a PC gamer out and out – take it a step further and get your entire PC rig mounted to the wall. Decor x Practicality at its finest.
Gaming Bedroom Console Area
If you’re both a PC gamer and a console gamer – it only makes sense to have two stations for both. That’s exactly what we see here with this small bedroom gaming setup from “ScorpioTech”.
Notice the positioning is at the end of the bed – so you can play directly from the bed and not having to use the gaming chair and reposition it away from the gaming room. This is a super cool gaming bedroom that’s well worth checking out. The keyboard shelf is a great touch.
Tiered Gaming Desk

Clearly taken in some of cosy gaming nook, this little set up makes fantastic use of a tired system. It’s almost like the gaming desk sets under a desk where the monitor and figurines are. This is not only great for creating the additional space, but allows the LEDs to really come through too.
I like the gaming PC rig being under the desk in the case of small bedrooms – as there just isn’t the room in most cases to take advantage of that properly.
Create a Gaming Closet

I always think the very best gaming bedrooms have a distinct area of separation – and there’s nothing better than using a closet area to create that separation. Check out the range of different setups and ideas we have here for different gaming closets.
Rustic Gaming Room Features

Being a gaming room doesn’t mean you need to go all out – you need to think about how it works with the rest of the room. I love the set-up above as it incorporates a traditional style desk and features alternative wall decor in the form of hanging guitars that offers a sense of practicality too.
I am actually part of local group who does archery in York so I have hang my bow up on the wall and that has a really cool look to it as well.
Minimal Bedroom Gaming Set Up

What a minimal gaming desk set up like the above offers you is the the ability to turn gaming mode on and off – switch off the LEDS and suddenly you have a nice normal desk set up for productivity purposes. Turn them on, and you’re right in the gaming zone.
Keeping a generally minimalistic feel – gives the impression of a larger room as there is simply less stuff occupying it. We’ve got a great showcase of minimalistic game rooms here to take inspiration from.
Monitor Arms Save Space

This is a great little set up for a bedroom as it is still quite flexible and minimalist can styling nature. However, the main reason I wanted to highlight this is to show the monitor arm. What monitor arms actually afford you is more desk space.
A standard monitor comes with a stand but that actually sits on the desk itself – a monitor arm attached to the back of the desk – so it frees up a lot more room. That you can use as potential storage, but it also just looks a lot cleaner. It’s a great solution if you’re not prepared to wall mount it.
Mini Keyboards
Finding yourself being short on desk space?
A great way to create some instant more desk ‘room’ and breathing space. – is get a mini gaming keyboard something around the 40% level for those looking to take it to a more extreme level.
However, even a 60 or 65% type level of what a normal keyboard takes up – will definitely add a whole lot more room to the gaming set up you have and be a way to help you feel like the space is larger than it actually is.
We have actually checked out some awesome mini gaming keyboards that you might want to consider here.
Storage Solutions

When working with a small bedroom gaming set up – you really need to have a good think about the different storage solutions that you have got available to you. We go into detail on different gaming storage ideas here – but you can see use of shelving and wall mounting is a great way to go – to help you save space here.
Cable Management

Being tight on space, means you’re going to have to put in some effort when it comes to making sure that your cables don’t become a mess. Do some pre-planning beforehand and invest in some good cable management equipment (clips and wraps and the like) to make sure it doesn’t get out of control.
Stack Gaming Equipment

This is a great example of ‘stacking’ when you’re short on space, you need to make the most of every inch and there’s no better way to do that then to stack up monitors – not only monitors but you can see they have mounted the speakers as well.
Think about you can use mounts and arms to try and gain more room in your small bedroom vertically, is there anything you can wall mount or take higher to save desk space?
One top further in the case here would be to have some sort of Nanoleaf lighting, so the lights attach to the wall and you could even mount the speakers – but there is a lot of future proofing there to take into account.
Controller Holders

When working with a small area – such as a small bedroom gaming area – you’re going to have to get clever storage. Wall mounted gaming controllers are a great answer to that. They serve a dual purpose of being decorative, plus they have a dedicated ‘living space’. This can look particularly good when you get custom and modded controllers that can to your overall space.
Standing Desks

I think most gamers sometimes brush over the fact a standing desk can really help to break up game play and not have you going into zombie mode too much.
A game of Dota 2 stood up and then another sat down is a great way to keep your body in check. Plus, a standing desk works really in small areas, as it gives the perception of more space when stood up too.
Obviously, if you are working in a small space – try to go for the more narrow and smaller gaming desks, so that it doesn’t occupy the whole room – but of course at the same time it needs to be able to cater to all your gaming gear.
You might even want to take it a step further and build your own gaming desk or come up with a more bespoke solution.
Vertical Monitor Gaming Room Setup

I love this set up – for those who like to also code as well as – have their secondary monitor for chat boards and forums. Also. you can see that it has that game vibe (we know this from the Elgato Wave XLR and Stream Deck XL) – plus they make use of storage with the speaker being placed on a shelf. A streamer style gaming set up – that looks great.
Mounted Equipment

This is a great showcase of making the most of a small space. Here you can see three monitors – with two at the bottom and one stacked on the top with speakers either side. Plus, a range of equipment sitting on the desk as well – all backed with RGB lighting.
Alternative Wall Art

To inject personality into a small space, a great way to achieve this is to throw something a bit different onto the wall – so you can see above there is a number plate – that fits the whole orange theme. However, it can be anything from Skateboards to even having the PC rig mounted to the wall. It’s a great way to add a bit of cosiness to the space and gaming setup.
Use Gaming Memorabilia & Figurines

Don’t neglect the accessories, this is what turns a good gaming room to a great one. Invest in posters and metal plates with your favorite game or movie characters – it adds life to the whole room. If you’re tight on space, you can hang it higher on the wall to be out of the way of furniture.
What I particularly like about the above, is that they are conscious of space and have inserted the figurines in the PC itself to create a nice personalised touch – and doesn’t get in the way of the main desk area as well.
Neon Lighting and Signage

This room has a great use of lighting right from the gaming rig with RGB lighting all the way to the “Hello” neon sign as well as the camera and the Philips Hue lighting they are using to create the overall ‘ambience’ of the room. It’s not for everyone but kicks off that it is a gaming room — right from the off.
Think About Color Themes

This is one of my favorite set ups from the list with the subtle undertones of burned orange that are carried all the way through through the gaming accessories but the overall decor too with the license plate over the top – and even the monitor wallpaper. What it does show is the important of a high quality desk for a wide monitor set up.
Although, you might have a small bedroom, making sure the desk is ample – where it can fit in a good manner – as best you can will make the whole ‘gaming experience’ so much better. If you’re looking for some more inspiration when it comes to gaming room colors check out this post.
Glow in the Dark Paint

Using glowing in the dark paint creatively is such a clever way of creating a gaming experience – that doesn’t show up in the bedroom. Where day to day – you can’t see it – but when you going into gaming mode – turn off the main light and fire up the RGB it comes across and shines right on the wall.
Very clever, but I just think it needs to be done in the right way – and investing in some stencils here could work out quite well.
Wire Wall Grids

Another pretty clever way of creating more ‘storage’ within a small bedroom gaming setup is to have a wire wall grid set up. These add a certain aesthetic, plus create an area that you can use to hang up accessories as well as potential gaming figurines too.
Keep It Balanced

Remember to keep some balance, the gaming bedroom, is just as much a gaming room as well as a bedroom – so when you are not gaming. – you want it to be a nice place you can relax and chill. Keeping the gaming area of the bedroom to a confined space is a great way of achieving just that. Especially, with a relatively small bedroom gaming arrangement.
Key Lights

Key lights are a fantastic addition to a small gaming room – especially if you plan on streaming as well – it creates direct lighting on you and can illuminate the whole area. Elgato are well known for their quality key lights (available in a range of different sizes) that you could control via your smart phone or Stream Deck.
Desk LED Lighting

Again this is a great show of lighting for a relatively small desk set up – this could be smaller even – but the use of LED lighting specifically around the back of the desk is a great touch.
Around the back is particularly important as then you can avoid seeing the actual LED themselves which aren’t great to look at. If you are looking for some high quality ones that you can sync in with your overall set up then I definitely recommend taking a look at the Elgato LED lighting strips that they offer.
Make Use of Plants

What I think this set up highlights is that it doesn’t need to be fancy from the get go. Your small bedroom gaming room can be basically a working in progress and you can get there a set at a time.
But, what I think this setup does really well for a gaming room that you will find a lot exclude is the ‘plants’ – a plant can really make a great difference to any room and your gaming room is no exception.
Minimal For Dual Office Use

What works particularly well in this set up – is not on the plants that I just touched on – but it is the sort of best of both worlds. Where it is clearly usable as a functional office space but can quickly be turned into a gaming pad – by hitting out the lights and even switching the keyboard to something like a Corsair K70 with RGB lighting and you’re pretty much there.
Gaming RGB Keyboards

If you have a gaming PC, what I think this small bedroom gaming room highlights is just what a good quality gaming keyboard with RGB can really do.
Personally, I’m not a massive fan of over the top RGB but subtle hints are a nice tough and I think that’s exactly what they have done here. Literally, just swapping out a keyboard is a great first step to getting this.
Wall Mount Screens

One of the best things to do if you’re short on space is trying to wall mount screens. Whether that’s a monitor or a TV, if you can wall mount it that saves you the furniture space that you would’ve had to use if you were to put it on a stand.
Just make sure that the wall can take the weight and you get the right bracket, but this is something that’s well worth doing when it comes to small bedroom gaming rooms.
Gaming Shrines

Remember when it comes to a ‘gaming room’ it’s more than a screen or monitor and a PC or console, you need to add decor in there. There’s nothing better than getting a bunch of figurines you love – for me it is Star Wars – and giving them a bit of spotlight.
Works a treat to make the whole space for you to chill and relax in. Again though, don’t feel overwhelmed – start your collection – and add to it over time.
Wall Art

Nothing helps a little room come together – more so than a bit of art. My mate once had his dad paint a range of Nintendo characters in portraits to be dotted all around his gaming room.
They were great – you don’t need to go quite to that level but you can invest in a bit of gaming art to help make your small bedroom become more ‘gamified’.
Minimalistic Tones

This is a set up that is again more on the minimalistic side but you can see hints of Star Wars and the gaming aspect of this set up.
Going this route is probably wiser when the small bedroom is ‘contested’ for other space as well and it’s not ‘your bedroom’ per se but rather a small bedroom gaming area that you were going to convert into a gaming experience.
Can You Ever Have Too Much RGB?

This is a great shot to show you how much RGB you can actually incorporate in just the basic gaming accessories. Here we can see the gaming keyboard, the gaming mouse pad and the gaming mouse itself offer RGB all to match.
When it is subtle and in one color variation I think this is when it works best. When it is going off like a disco is when I personally struggle with it.
Use Pegboards for Extra Storage

As you can make out on the left there, this is a super clean set up with the white pegboard to hold up a range of different accessories from their headphones to a spare keyboard to even a few plants and cables.
This is a great day of making space when you are confined to a little bedroom and you need to make the most out of it. Plus, considering it is storage, if you organise it neatly it can look pretty aesthetic as well.
You could even take it a step further and do your own gaming designs over the top of it as well – especially if you considering yourself a bit of an artist.
Under Desk Storage

There’s a bunch of items that I really dig about this gaming set up – mostly due to the Legato items that we can see in there such as the Stream Deck as well as the Key lights – but what I really wanted to highlight is two things.
First, the importance of an ergonomic gaming chair. The one you see featured is Herman Miller’s Embody but if you want more of a gaming look they also did cross partnership with Logitech and Herman Miller – that has a Blue and Teal effect.
The second is the storage of the headphones. Notice how it is under the desk – make proper use of your under desk space, especially if you’re tight on room – that’s why I am a bid advocate for getting a properly sized desk as you can make use of it still.
That said there are a bunch of clever gaming chair accessories that you can add to your gaming chair as well to create more space as well.
Clever Use of Desk Space

Even though there is a lot on this desk, you have speakers, a microphone, an Elgato Streamdeck Mini as well as a stand for headphones. Then of course the monitor itself, gaming mouse as well as keyboard.
Why it doesn’t look overly messy, is that everything has somewhere to live, you can see a great example of this with the headphone stand. Making sure that it is clean and neat is a great way to make your gaming room look really great and inviting!
Use Acoustic Paneling

I am personally a really big fan of acoustic panelling – firstly you can see it in the backdrop there in the wall – it’s got a great aesthetic to it. Plus it can help rooms come alive as you’re adding a different surface texture.
Plus, it can make the actual gaming experience sound better as well – plus if there are other members in the household they are going to be thanking you for the soundproofing that they can do as well.
DIY Gaming RIG

Here’s the thing, if you’re making your own gaming rig – then really – you can make it quite compact. The one we see here is certainly the smaller side, but if you take a look at the Corsiair One for example – they can come really compact (not cheap though granted),
But to be honest, is a Corsair PC – really a Corsair PC if it doesn’t have RGB fans?
Dual Monitor Stands

Here is a classic case of where you are a bit tight on room on what you can do. We have the vertical monitor on the left on a slight angle to fit in with the rest of the desk but there is certainly no disruption to the overall flow of the set up.
It looks clean and wit the use of the colorful mechanical keyboard you can tell there is some sort of gaming edge there as well. Plus, a Logitech Master mouse so there’s clearly some sort of work and a bit of gaming going on there most likely.
“L Shaped” Desks

We touched on this briefly but making sure that you actually get the right desk can also go along away. If you have a corner to work with – an L Shaped Desk is a great way to give you some more room to ‘put out your stuff’.
On the Floor Seating
When you’re short on space, you might need to opt for furniture that serves dual purposes. A gaming bean bag can be a great way of achieving this.
You can check out our full range of floor gaming chairs here.
But instead of your traditional desk and gaming chair combination, you can save space by having wall attached consoles (e.g. Playstation and Xbox mounted with your TV) and then having the controllers attached there too.
Then you can just have your ‘gaming set up’ per se as the gaming bean bag.
Here’s What I’d Do
Doing all the above – all at once?
That’s probably not the way to go about it (at least without some serious planning). When it came to my gaming room – I treated it like a mini project.
I got a bunch of pictures of different gaming set ups that I wanted to replicate – clean White and minimalistic – and went step by step to produce it.
You can plan it all out in your head but don’t think you have to go ahead and implement it all at once, at least for me – that’s way too much.
One thing at a time. Pick out the Wrist Rest you want.
How you’re going to stack your displays and so on.
To be fair, I wish I did more planning that way – as I am going back to change stuff – but your gaming room should always be evolving to some degree anyway.
One thing I’ve learned there is maybe a thing – as too much minimalism – not enough character. You want a space that’s clean, don’t get me wrong.
But it should sure as heck be inviting as well, right?
How Does a Small Bedroom Become a Small Bedroom Gaming Room?
Let’s break down what you need at a basic level – but if you are a beginner – then I recommend taking a look at our starter guide.
We know from the off that fundamentally all gaming set ups – basically need a desk of some kind – that’s the first item on your list. Not whether it is a gaming desk or not – but how it is going to fit in with your room.
Then naturally, the next thing you’re actually going to need is a chair of some kind. I personally have the Corsair T3 gaming chair if you are looking for more of that gaming vibe.
Again, it is not really the quality of the chair per se (compared to that of a standard chair) but more about the feeling that it does involve when you sit in.
For instance, if you go for a gaming chair with LEDs that’s going to get you way more in the zone than a standard one – although they might provide the same level of ‘comfort’ – but gaming is more than that.
Then you’re going to need a gaming monitor that fits in with your room.
I think the desk and monitor should be all measured up – you don’t want an oversized desk for a small monitor and likewise a monitor that is too big for your desk (I’ve had that happen to me).
Think about the types of games you are playing as well and just how immersive you want to be. Figure out what is the right size gaming monitor for your gaming room.
I think what makes a room – a ‘gaming’ room – other than the activity itself is having great lighting.
I don’t even think it needs to be that fancy, literally a small amount of LED strip attached to your desk is sufficient (we talk about how to do that just here).
This includes all your headsets, gaming mice, keyboards and other additional accessories to your gaming rig.
The thing about these items is that you need to be clever when it comes to storage. I’m a big fan of pegboards to keep this type of gear in a nice and neat order.
I also like the gear that looks not always ‘gaming’ but can dual up for productivity purposes as well, so it can quite easily be turned into home office gear and a general workstation to being a gaming zone – literally at the touch of a button.
- Decor
Now you have started to get some of the ideas together with what you actually need – it’s also about how you start putting it altogether and adding the finishing touches. From the type of wall paint you might be going for to the different figurines that you might want.
From here you will have started to nail down some of your different items that you like the look of and starting to picture how it all fits together, personally I recommend, measuring it all out.
Jot down where you think certain items will go and how it will be arranged – take a gaming room set up you like the look of and try to follow that as a source of inspiration as well.
- Planning
Putting it altogether is the hardest part.
Especially keeping in mind that it is a bedroom and a gaming room right? Sometimes you might not want to be in a gaming environment all the time (each to their own). So you need to create a room that has dual functionality.
I alluded to it above, but I think one of the best ways to do just that is the use of lighting. When it comes to the accessories – keep them quite monotone in nature – but have the ability to turn them on when it comes to gaming.
Lighting can literally be the difference between a gaming environment and just a standard workspace. You’re going to want to relax in your bedroom and chill out in your bed – so making sure that’s possible is a must. So really think about the storage solutions that you have and where you can hide things away – so they are out of view.
However, at the end of the day make sure it to make out your own as well – there’s no point creating a space that you don’t enjoy. Just try to the best of both worlds as much as you can.
So let’s put a little checklist together:
What Do You Think?
Hopefully, you have got some inspiration from the above small bedroom gaming room ideas above that you can incorporate into your own set up – if you’re looking for some more general gaming room ideas – I recommend checking out our super list here. Was there any ideas that you think we were missing? We’d love to hear about them.
More than that, I’d love to see what you have managed to do with your own gaming room.
